NITOC Prep Camp

May 8th & 9th

You want to compete your best at NITOC. Your preparation can make or break high level rounds. We want to help you maximize the quality of your content and presentation to every degree possible. In a content-packed 7+ hours, we'll break down the main frameworks, value structures, applications, and philosophies you'll see at NITOC, discuss the strongest arguments on both sides of the resolution, and practice the exact drills that coach Charis Baker credits much of her national LD speaking championship to. Plus, open Q+A is always encouraged!

Having written 6 cases and edited countless more on the NITOC resolution, coached over 50 students on this resolution alone, and judged a plethora of in-tournament rounds, Charis has a strong holistic and practical understanding of the resolution that you need to win on at NITOC. And she wants you to be able to compete at your very best!

What Sets Us Apart?

1) Tournament Insight

While most other coaches get their understanding of the metagame second hand from students after tournaments, Charis has attended numerous tournaments and actively pushed the metagame through discussions at tournaments, judging and writing ballots, blog posts, coaching sessions, and gotten a front row seat to the development of argumentation around the country this season.

2) Hands-on Learning
As Affirmatives like to point out, the best learning comes through hands-on engagement with ideas and argumentation. Rather than asking students to sit and listen for multiple hours, we focus on making sure students actually understand and can effectively execute argumentation in round, not just listen to a coach explain it.

Date: Friday, May 8th 4pm - 8pm CT & Saturday, May 9th 9am-12:30pm CT (with meal breaks)

Practice Tournament

To implement the responses and arguments they gained in prep camp and to practice executing new strategies before NITOC, students can register to participate in our optional practice tournament. There will be two rounds directly following bootcamp and each student will have the opportunity to debate as affirmative and as negative.  Rounds will be judged so that students can receive feedback. Judges will have an optional 15min of verbal feedback at the end of each round.

You can sign up for the practice tournament even if you're not attending prep camp!

Round 1: 1:00-2:00pm CT

Round 2: 2:15pm-3:15pm CT

Judging: Rounds will be judged by Stoa alumni and coaches with significant LD experience.
